CESPAD has initiated the ‘Kick for Water,’ a campaign leveraging on the galvanizing power of football to power of football to rally Kenyans to protect water and the environment. Bolstered by a sustained media, social media and on-ground activities, the campaign will culminate in a football tournament that will be held in Kisumu on the 13th and 14th of December 2024. In this regard, we are pleased to invite you to participate and indeed sponsor the tournament.

The Need:

Kenya is classified as a water-scarce country. Every drop of water in the country matters. Protecting water and the environment is tied to both our survival and prosperity. Pollution of water sources is increasing the burden of water-borne diseases with unsafe water and inadequate sanitation contributing to over 75% of child mortality cases in the country.

In addition, illegal logging and population pressures are degrading our fragile ecosystems threatening the survival of 70% of Kenyans who rely on agriculture for their livelihoods while also exposing us to the broader dangers of the adverse effects of climate change.

The Campaign in Detail

The campaign will encompass the following:

  • A sustained social media and mainstream media visibility drive
  • A viral campaign endorsed by captains of industry: Tutunze, Tuishi, Tustawi
  • High Impact Roadshows (10th – 12th December 2024) in high-footfall areas across the Lake Region
